“Sharing Hope, Growing in Grace” – FBCWH’s new mission statement

We are excited to share our new mission statement with everyone “Sharing Hope, Growing in Grace”! This statement is: 1) Biblical, 2) Timeless, and 3) Easily relatable, 4) Summarizes the purpose for FBC Winthrop Harbor’s existence as a local church and gathering of those who profess Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

why “Sharing hope”?
“Behold, this we have searched out; it is true. Hear, and know it for your good” – Job 5:27

As people who have been saved, forgiven, and redeemed by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ, how can we not share this good news we have received!? To share the hope that is offered through knowing Jesus Christ is not a task on the Christian check list, rather it should be the natural desire for any Christian to want to share something with others that they have found to be more wonderful than anything else in the world.

Everyone can relate to the importance of sharing what is good, and that is simply what Christians are commanded to do! We are not to hoard this good news to ourselves, but spread it across the world without any discrimination.

Sharing hope is one of the most foundational aspects of Christian living, because after all, hope was shared with us.

why “growing in grace”?
“now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more.” – Romans 5:20

Growing in Grace
Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more…” – Romans 5:20

Not only should sharing the hope of Jesus Christ be a natural desire of the Christian, but so should the desire of growing in their understanding of the grace of God. Without growing in God’s grace, the Christian cannot possibly understand God’s ultimate calling upon their life, which is sanctification that leads to holiness and glorification. Christians who commit themselves to growing in God’s grace are Christians indeed. It is this desire for spiritual growth that gives the individual Christian affirmation of their eternal life in heaven being secured in Jesus Christ.

Everyone can relate to the importance of personal growth and development. For Christians, this personal growth and development is specifically related to conforming to the image of Jesus Christ, which comes through growing in God’s grace as we rely upon His grace daily to complete the work He began in us.

Sincerely,
One who is simply sharing the hope I received and growing in the grace that sustains me,
Pastor Corwin
